What excuse can I think of today to avoid the tyranny of the blank page? I know, research; write notes; postpone writing chapter two until I’ve had feedback on chapter one; and so on.
The great writers didn’t go to creative writing classes, or writing retreats, or make piles of notes. They got oin with the work they had to do. They wrote lots of novels and got better at it.
Look at Jim Thompson’s output, for example. It was vast. It had to be; he was writing for a living. But my God, that guy could write novels.
Do I have to tell you what the take-home is? Probably not, but I’m going to anyway.
Get in front of your keyboard and write. Stop making excuses.
